Conditions After Birth

Postpartum depression / anxiety / Fatigue / exhaustion

Do you feel intense fatigue, anxiety, have difficulty concentrating, or have a loss of libido? Postnatal depletion is common and can make an already difficult time in a new mother’s life all the more challenging.

Each woman can be different, and the ability to focus the treatment according to each person’s specific and individual needs is what makes Acupuncture so effective. Emotional disruption is due to the emotional and physical rollercoaster that a woman experiences throughout the entire pre and postnatal experience (hormonal changes, body changes, pregnancy, labour, breastfeeding, etc.) It is important when dealing with the myriad of possible symptoms that are associated with post-partum depression: sadness, depression, laughing or crying for no apparent reason, inability to calm down, chest oppression, shakiness, possible loss of consciousness, and in severe cases hallucinations. One of the benefits of receiving acupuncture in the treatment of postpartum depression is that acupuncture works with the body’s natural chemistry and therefore does not interfere with lactation by entering the bloodstream. This means that women who are breastfeeding do not need to worry about chemicals entering the breast milk.

Postpartum hypogalactia (not producing enough milk)

Postpartum hypogalactia is often caused by weakness after delivery. Other causes include congenital dysplasia, dietary issues, and stress. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles, childbirth brings great changes to the reproductive organs and the entire body. The functions of the meridians and viscera are easily maladjusted during the recuperative period. In order to ensure sufficient breast milk production, which is vital to the baby’s healthy growth and the mother, it is important to provide a timely differential diagnosis and treatment once postpartum hypogalactia is discovered.

Pelvic pain, and pain/recovery after a C-section

Acupuncture can help with postpartum pelvic issues. For pain management and scar tissue removal, acupuncture is the go-to method. Irregular pelvic bone configuration can also be corrected through TCM methods by loosening the muscles around the pelvic region and then realigning the pelvic bones. Done over a number of sessions and proper self-training as instructed by our physicians, women can once again walk and sit comfortably. Furthermore, urinary incontinence, constipation, hair loss, depression and even postpartum weight management can be resolved with a combination of various TCM methods.

Other symptoms may include following:

  • Urinary incontinence after vaginal tearing
  • Constipation and hemorrhoids
  • Night sweats and hormonal imbalances
  • Uterine bleeding
