Neck and Shoulder pain is undeniably a very common health problem in today’s society. The incidence of neck and shoulder pain continues to rise, especially in the adolescent and young adult populations. It is usually felt upon waking up and can affect your daily activities. Neck and Shoulder pain is typically characterized by the neck and/or shoulder pain and difficulty moving the neck. It is usually felt upon waking up and can affect your daily activities.

With over years of experience, practitioners at GreenLeaf Clinic have identified the most common muscles affected by neck and shoulder pain are:

Causes

Some of the more common ones include:

  • Sleeping with your neck in an awkward posture
  • Prolonged wrong body posture such as:
    • Gazing (in a slouched position) at the computer screen for a long period of time
    • Looking down at our mobile phones for too long
  • The sudden impact from sports injuries that pushes your head to the side
  • Excessive stress or anxiety results in tense muscles

Most people get neck and shoulder pain that develops out of nowhere after waking up and it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. It is usually the result of soft tissue and muscles around the neck and shoulder weakening over time due to prolonged wrong body posture.

Acupuncture can be tremendously helpful in naturally managing an acute or chronic neck and shoulder injury, and may even help resolve the pain completely. How does it do this? Acupuncture can reduce pain naturally by decreasing inflammation, improving blood flow to the area, and helping damaged or torn tissues to heal.
