INSURANCE

Using your coverage

Most patients treat here through some combination of MSP, an ICBC claim, or their extended health plan. Here's how each works.

MSP Supplementary Benefits

If you receive MSP supplementary benefits, acupuncture is covered — no doctor's referral needed. Just bring your care card or personal health number to your first visit.

MSP covers $23 per visit, up to a combined annual limit of 10 visits shared across acupuncture, massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic, naturopathy, and non-surgical podiatry. We bill MSP directly, and you're only charged the balance of your treatment fee.

Motor vehicle accident

ICBC Direct Billing

If you were injured in a car accident, ICBC automatically pre-authorizes up to 12 acupuncture sessions within 12 weeks of the accident date — regardless of fault. No doctor's referral or ICBC approval is needed for these first 12 sessions; just bring your ICBC claim number.

We bill ICBC directly, so there's no cost to you. If you need further treatment, we can request an extension on your behalf.

Acupuncture is often used to treat the pain, whiplash, and soft-tissue injuries common after an MVA — along with related stress and anxiety.

Extended Health — Direct Billing

We're happy to bill your extended health insurance directly. Once your coverage is confirmed, you only pay the balance of your fee. Coverage varies by plan, but acupuncture is typically covered at 70–100% of treatment fees — some plans offer a flat dollar amount per year instead. Check your benefits booklet or ask your provider for the details of your plan.

What we'll need from you

  • The policy holder's name and date of birth.
  • Your relationship to the policy holder (self, spouse, parent, etc.).
  • We can only bill one insurer at a time, except Pacific Blue Cross and GreenShield. If you're covered under both your own plan and a family member's, we claim to your own plan first, then the alternate plan.
  • In rare cases, a claim response can take 1–2 weeks. If that happens, we'll ask for a credit card as backup payment.
  • Every plan has its own rules — some require a doctor's note for acupuncture, others don't allow direct billing at all. We recommend checking with your provider before your visit.
  • If your plan doesn't accept direct billing, we'll give you a receipt after every treatment so you can submit the claim yourself.
